His Excellency Mr. Syed Abrar Hussian, Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal handed over “Nissan Urvan” ambulance to Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre (SIRC) today. During the event, centre’s Chairperson Mrs. Meera Jyoti said that the cases of spinal cord injury is increasing day by day. So this is a very precious gift to the centre. She added that proper transportation plays a vital role in the transfer of the patients after injury so that they do not sustain secondary injury.
Mr. Kanak Mani Dixit, founder chairperson of SIRC said that centre has been catering to the increasing number of SCI patients with limited resources, mainly due to lack of funds. He announced that, he will drive the SIRC’s mascot “1973 model Volkswagen Beetle” to Lahore Pakistan in March 2011. The per kilometer sponsorship will raise funds for SIRC.
The centre started in Jorpati in 2002 and moved to its own building in Sanga, Kavre in 2008. At present SIRC can accommodate up to 35 patients but is in the plan to expand up to 51 beds due to increasing number of spinal cord injury, said Esha Thapa Dhungana, Director of SIRC.
