SIRC held its first Awareness Camp on July 22, 2008 at a school, Yagyamati Madhyamic Vidyalaya (YMV) at Paiyutar, Kopan. The purpose of the Camp was to educate and generate awareness about spinal cord injury (SCI) as well as to inform the participants about SIRC. The Camp included: by the SIRC staff about spinal injury (its causes, effects, and required care); a personal account by our peer-counselor, Shiva Neupane, about his experience with SCI; and information about our Centre. The Camp was an overall success and we hope to continue conducting such camps in the future. We hope that these camps will not educate the public about the proper care necessary and available for SCI but also lead to a decline in SIC cases in the country.
