On 16 May 2008, SIRC’s peer counselors, Shiva Neupane and Sonika Dhakal went white-water rafting. They were accompanied by two other SIRC staff, Shrijana Aryal, nurse in-charge, and Uday Adhikari, wheelchair service coordinator. The trip was made possible by the generous support of Sherpa Trekking Service. The trip started in Belephi (lower Bhote Koshi river) and concluded below Sukute. Neupane and Dhakal paddled for over two hours and were also able to enjoy a swim in the Bhote Koshi River. Each participant had a wonderful time on the trip and it proved to be rewarding both physically and emotionally. The trip was a true testament to the capabilities of spinally injured persons as both Neupne and Dhakal are former patients of the Centre.
