Your sponsorship ensures that individuals with spinal injuries from low economic background receive the comprehensive care they need to regain independence and reintegrate into society. This support covers a wide range of services, from holistic rehabilitation at the centre to ensuring well-being after they return home. A comprehensive patient sponsorship provides the following essential services, each critical to the recovery and long-term success of individuals with spinal injuries:
3-month residential rehabilitation: A three-month stay at the rehabilitation centre provides the structured environment needed for the rehabilitation of persons with spinal cord injury. During this stay, the patients get access to holistic rehabilitation services such as medical and nursing care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and psychological support. This comprehensive care is crucial for helping patients rebuild physical strength, relearn daily activities, and address the emotional and mental health challenges that often accompany spinal injuries. The patient’s caretaker/family members also receive training and resources to help them support their loved one’s rehabilitation process effectively.
Appropriate wheelchair: A suitable wheelchair is essential for restoring mobility and independence of persons with spinal injuries. It allows patients to move around safely and confidently, which is vital for their self-esteem and ability to participate in daily activities, both within the rehabilitation centre and after they return home.
Discharge package: A well-planned discharge package ensures that patients have the necessary resources and support as they transition from the rehabilitation centre back to their homes. The package includes catheters, ointment gel, hygiene kit and medical supplies.
Home modifications: Homes in Nepal are not designed to meet the specific needs of individuals with spinal injuries. Modifying the home to make it accessible and safe is crucial for enabling patients to live independently after they transition from our fully accessible centre. These modifications include installing ramps, widening doorways, and adjusting bathroom and kitchen facilities, all of which are essential to prevent accidents and promote mobility and autonomy. Without such modifications, patients who have been rehabilitated at our centre would find themselves completely immobile in their own homes, undoing much of the progress made during their rehabilitation. Therefore, home modification is not just an option but a necessity to ensure that these individuals can maintain their independence and quality of life while also supporting their families.
Follow-up care: Follow-up visits and check-ins are vital for tracking the patient’s progress, addressing any emerging challenges, and providing ongoing support as needed. Each patient receives a tele-rehabilitation follow-up, an in-person follow-up and a phone follow-up, ensuring a seamless reintegration into the community and helping patients sustain the improvements they’ve made during their rehabilitation. Additionally, follow-up care includes the planning and supervision of home modification activities, ensuring that patients’ living environments remain conducive to their independence and well-being.
