Siraha
Uttim Lal Shah is a 55-year-old a government school teacher from Siraha. Teacher life at his village was going on well for the Shah family until Uttim sustained spinal cord injury by motorbike accident on his way to school. Following the accident, Uttim was rushed to nearby health post from where he was referred to Neuro Hospital, Kathmandu for treatment. At Hospital, he was diagnosed with Traumatic cervical canal stenosis C3-C6 incomplete injury
Uttim received surgical management for his injury. Uttim‟s condition brought immense sorrow to the Shah family. On June 2014, Uttim was brought to Spinal Centre for comprehensive rehabilitation. Uttim spent three months at Centre, receiving regular therapy and motivation from nurses, patients and volunteers in helping Uttim regain his gait. Within a few months, the therapists were successful in helping perform some activities of daily living, but, above all: walk without assistance! Ending last month, prior to his discharge, Uttim did not require a wheelchair. We are all pleased with the progress Uttim showed during rehabilitation at our Centre. His stay at Spinal Centre was unique and enjoyable for all. This month, Uttim left our Centre with his supportive wife to continue his work back home.
